It is claimed that tattooing has existed since 12,000 years BC, with the purpose varying from culture to culture – playing an important role in ritual and tradition.
Borneo women tattooed symbols on their forearm indicating their particular skill, for the Greeks tattooing was used to communicate among spies, Romans marked criminals and slaves, Danes, Norse, and Saxons tattooed family crests, while the Japanese eventually escalated tattoo to an aesthetic art form.
Fast forward to today, tattooing has become more popular and accepted that it has ever been.
